Monthly Must-Haves: May

Time to  freshen up your wardrobe, or as we Texans refer to it , a summer warm-up. Fluttery Sleeves (also known as the bell-sleeve), Off-The-Shoulder tops & dresses and Moto Jackets are climbing the style charts and our hearts.

Although bell bottoms have yet to top the style chart again we’re falling head over heels with the bell sleeve, or rather as we like to call it the “bell top”– so romantic,  fluttery and eye catching.

The bell top sways with each movement –  elegance and simplicity radiating with each movement. The simple flare adds a hint of sophistication and transforms a Saturday morning grocery shopping outfit to afternoon strolling along the boardwalk. The exaggerated sleeve can even have a layered effect with ruffles to add a bit of drama to any part of your day. The bell top will make you want to exaggerate your arm movements just to see the fabric sway elegantly. It’s the perfect combination of sleek and swingy!

The ’90s called, and we’re never calling them back because we’ve decided to keep the off the shoulder (OTS) trend. Although this trend has been seen season after season, it’s being revived and given a boost of confidence. The OTS top helps you ease into showing a little skin for spring and goes perfect with a pair of jeans or black slacks.

Olivia Palermo is a Global Style Ambassador for Banana Republic and has endorsed this trend with a gorgeous tiered top. Just a heads up, this top runs large so get that next size (or two). OTS is working its way back into our hearts and closets so you won’t want to overlook it this year.

Rev up your style with a tough luxe look. The motorcycle jacket, also known as the moto jacket, biker jacket or bomber jacket, adds an instant edge to any look. What is so great about this jacket is that there are no rules. Choose from a cropped, long or embroidered style that comes in a range of shades and materials from leather to suede. Each also sports many zipped pockets for functionality – no wonder when it first was introduced it was dubbed the “Perfecto!”

A little known fact: the original innovator of the moto jacket, Matchless London, designs all the moto /bomber/biker jackets that you see on the big screen today – everyone from Tom Cruise to Scarlett Johansson. However, since these leather beauties are only sold in London, we’ve “wrangled” up some styles that you can take for a spin at Galleria Dallas.
