How my family does holiday at Galleria Dallas

450,000 twinkling lights.

10,000 colored ball ornaments.

1,700 branches.

3 days.

50 Santa’s helpers.

The magnificent holiday tree at Galleria Dallas is 95 feet tall!

That’s what it takes to set up the largest indoor Christmas tree at Galleria Dallas. (Thank goodness our tree at home doesn’t take that much work!)

Once you see it, towering 95-feet tall above our world-famous ice skating rink, you know it’s holiday in Dallas. It also signals to my family that it’s time to get out their Wish Lists, and for me to get to shopping and planning our holiday itinerary (and the many trips we will take to Galleria Dallas.)

11 AM: From the minute we pull up at Galleria Dallas, the girls love to see holiday on full parade with all the red lights decorating the building and the 60 Santa-suited parking directors welcoming us to the center. However, once we enter the center, it’s the beautiful décor and that amazing tree that always get oohs and ahhs no matter how many times we’ve seen it.

11:30 AM: Our family tradition first begins by choosing an angel from the Salvation Angel Tree to help teach our kids about giving and sharing with those less fortunate.

Noon: Then off to Santa for photos in his village (where we hope to be one of the first 300 guests each day to get cookies from Nestle Toll House Cafe).

Lunch, Lunch, Lunch! Since we’ve got our photos now, we can sit down and enjoy lunch. While my kids change what they want every minute, Mi Cocina is a family crowd pleaser – especially since you can watch the skaters around the tree! (And afterwards,  if mom is lucky, I can actually squeeze in a little shopping at some of my old favorites and a few of our new stores too like Uno de 50 and Choco Coco!)

3 PM: Next we enjoy the magical Slappy’s Holiday Circus with puppets, magic, clowns, contortionists and jugglers! (This one always gets them laughing and I love that it has the historical feel of a traveling, European entertainment troupe.)

Before 5 PM: Of course the highlight of our holiday tradition at Galleria is our newly named Macy’s Grand Tree Lighting Celebration! This is a must-see  with different world-famous skaters every weekend, but Black Friday (noon) and Sat. 24 (at 5 p.m.) Olympic star Brian Boitano will appear for a grand performance! We are so excited to welcome him and all our other amazing local skaters who have worked for months to prepare for our holiday spectacle. And who could forget Missile Toes! Galleria Dallas’ pyrotechnic, back-flippin’ Santa.  He is always a hit for my kiddos as he gets the whole center ready to light the tree!

And that’s just one weekend!

No matter when you come to Galleria Dallas – holiday is all around you. We hope to see you soon.
