Holly’s December Hot List

The best thing about the holidays is spending time with my friends and family. But holiday style is definitely a close second. These are the December trends I’m hoping make their way down my chimney this season — if I don’t buy them all up myself first!

tie-a-bow-final

Tie a bow on it
Presents aren’t the only things that get tied up with bows this month. Tie-neck blouses are all over the place right now, and I couldn’t be happier. I love the easy elegance a bow adds to a simple blouse and the way it instantly dresses up any outfit. The fun polka dots on this blouse from J.Crew only enhance the femininity of the bow, and the sheer fabric adds a bit of sexiness to the otherwise classic shape. It would pair well with anything, from jeans to a pencil skirt. For a simpler style, I like the clean look of this H&M top

If simple isn’t really your thing, I’ve got you covered! This frilled blouse from Zara is anything but bland. I love the satin texture and the cheery lime color. Who says winter is a time to be subdued, anyway?

sparkle-revised

Add some sparkle
This time of year, there’s no better way to add sparkle than with sequins.

This Halogen sequin scarf from Nordstrom is a chic and affordable piece that will add glam to any look. And it’s versatile too — it can be worn tied in your hair, worn around your neck or styled as a sash or belt.

I’ve made the case for a great bomber jacket before, and this applique floral bomber from Nordstrom definitely fits the bill. The sparkle is subtle but still makes a statement, and I love the combination of rose gold and silver in the sequins. For a more casual bomber that still dazzles, this oversized Zara jacket is on trend and crazy comfortable.

As for tops, I am coveting this short-sleeve sequin tee from Ann Taylor. It’s the perfect upgrade from a classic cotton version but would pair well with jeans, dressy pants or even a skirt (here’s its mate if you want to go matchy matchy). This leopard print sequin top from Zara is even more glamorous, especially with the full-shouldered design. It’s both fierce and fun!

A sequin skirt can be your wardrobe’s holiday hero. The Itzel embellished skirt from Club Monoco is definitely on my wish list. It would look fabulous layered over tights for a modest (and warmer) style. And there’s nothing more festive than the Rudolph-red color of this sequined wrap skirt from H&M. Whether you’re at a company holiday party or a smaller soiree, you’re sure to turn heads.

And finally, we get to shoes. I don’t have visions of sugarplums, but I do have visions of these sequin pumps from J.Crew. With a chunky heel and not-too-tall height, these are the perfect shoes to wear all season long, wherever your busy party schedule takes you.

shine-revised

…And some shine
Satin is the perfect fabric to add a dressy touch to all your holiday looks. And satin tops are so versatile — they work paired with denim for casual affairs or dressed up for the fanciest of parties!

This draped blouse from H&M is a great basic, and I’m smitten with the ballet-inspired design of this Topshop shirt from Nordstrom. If you’re not afraid to bare some shoulder (I’m not!), this forest green sateen top from Zara is for you.

I can’t wait to wear this satin skirt from H&M to my next formal event. The plum wine color is super seasonal, and the A-line hem is flattering for every body shape. And these high-waisted slacks from Bebe are the perfect upgrade from your basic black skinny pants. They’re modern and classy and will go with almost anything. Or forgo the separates and slip into this beautiful satin dress from BCBG. It’s the ideal length for any environment, and the cinched waist provides a whimsical detail.

red-final

And don’t forget a splash of red!
I love making a statement with a red dress like this one from Ann Taylor. It manages to be classic and new at the same time. But this year, I’m also feeling a little daring, which is why I’m excited about this Zara jumpsuit! I’m obsessed with the one-shoulder look and the flattering deep red color. I can’t wait to rock it this month.

For a slightly smaller statement, check out this cherry-hued open-shoulder blouse from H&M. The woven crêpe fabric is light enough for the warmer Texas winters, and the buttons down the back add a feminine detail. You just read about my abiding love for satin, so it’s no surprise that I’m taken by this frilled long-sleeve blouse from Zara, too.

And finally, there’s no better season for red ankle boots such as these Zara velvet heeled booties. They add both height and glamour to any outfit and are flattering with anything from jeans to a mini dress.

Before you step out the door, make sure you put on that last festive touch: a red lip. Sephora has dozens of options to choose from, and you can even consider layering red liner, lipstick and gloss for look that’ll shine brighter than Rudolph’s nose!

Whatever you wear this season, make it a point to stand out. Be daring and have fun! Happy holidays, Hot Listers!
