Holly’s August Hot List

August is like the Sunday of summer. My kids are heading back to school as the dog days of summer continue to drag on. Even though finding fresh styles for the season can be a challenge, here’s how I’m keeping my style as hot as the temps outside.

Patchwork Denim
I love all the new denim styles hitting the stores now, especially the patchwork looks. This detailing offers a fun way to add some dimension and texture to your jeans. Nordstrom has a pair of patchwork high-rise mom jeans (don’t let the name scare you) by Topshop that exemplifies this retro-chic trend. For a look with a little more subtlety, head to American Eagle and pick up these Tomgirl jeans. I like how the distressed style screams summer, but the patched holes keep them dress-code approved! If you prefer a slim fit, you’ll love these patchwork jeans from H&M, and those who want a relaxed style are sure to swoon over these boyfriend mid-rise straight jeans from Old Navy.

Embroidered Details
One way I like to add a pop of pizazz to my wardrobe is with embroidery, and this season so can you. Case in point: American Eagle amplifies this basic black blouse with a chic pattern in bright colors. This embroidered top by Madewell, sold at Nordstrom, is an easy way to add contrast and interest to basic linen and cotton. When the sun dips below the horizon, use it as an opportunity to throw on this breezy bell-sleeve embroidered tunic from Earthbound Trading Co. And because appliqued embroidery and patches are everywhere right now, I just had to include this pair of cropped jeans from Zara.

The ’90s are back in a big way, so it’s no surprise that chokers (the decade’s go-to jewelry trend) are everywhere this season! Lucky for me, the options now go way beyond a basic black stretchy band (guilty!). This brown suede choker and chain combo from Zara offers a fresh and versatile take on the trend. If you like the layered look, this two-chains choker from Apricot Lane Boutique may be a winner for your wardrobe. Remember those tattoo chokers? Well, this diamond-cutout choker from Forever 21 is giving me those vibes. Add edge to any look with this studded faux suede choker from Express, and for a more subtle and grown-up take on the trend, try this Uno de 50 Diatomea Choker.

I like staying active, but you don’t have to be an athlete to get in on this season’s athleisure trend! Everyone can add a sporty vibe to their everyday look with these fun options. While I’m running errands, I like to wear this city sky run by skirt from lululemon. It keeps me looking polished and perfectly on-trend. These super flattering moto leggings by Alo are an edgy take on athleisure, while this bonded t-shirt from Nike, sold at Macy’s, adds a playful touch to any look. The perfect way to perfect any athleisure outfit? A retro pair of kicks such as these Puma Basket Creepers from the Rihanna Fenty collection at Six:02.

It’s hot outside, so before the kids head back to school, head to Galleria Dallas to find the “haute” looks you need to transition the seasons with style!
