Cosmetic Corner: Korean Kraze

If there were such a thing as Beauty Olympics (seriously, why isn’t there a Beauty Olympics?!), Korea would dominate the podium. Thankfully, some of their best products have begun to migrate to beauty counters here in the U.S. No need to pack your bags to score the best in moisturizers and masks, you can now find these items at your favorite beauty hubs like Sephora and Nordstrom. Beauty secrets this good deserve to be shared, so we took our coworkers on a field trip to try out some of these new and usual products.

Glow Recipe Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser

Our fabulous receptionist, Jayne, gave the Glow Recipe Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser a whirl for us. This gentle, do-it-all cleanser claims to work for any skin type and melt away any products worn that day. She found that a small sample of this cleanser was enough to get her through the week, so the full size version would be a great investment. Although it has blueberry in the name, she said it just had a “clean, fresh scent”, and that it got the job done of removing the makeup. It’s also worth noting that it doesn’t dye your face blue, like Violet from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Clear eyes, clean face, can’t lose.

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

Since some of us are currently battling winter dry, we knew we had to get someone to try the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. Our Marketing Admin, Lauren practically jumped at the chance. This formula is created with mineral water to “recharge” your skin while you sleep. It absorbed quickly (no mess on the pillow!) and had a nice, calming scent. The best part? Skin was noticeably softer the next morning. You don’t have to use very much of the product to see results, and we highly recommend adding this to your weekly Skincare Sunday routine.

Erborian CC Crème High Definition Radiance Face Cream Skin Perfector

For all your gingers and other fair-skinned folks, you know that any product in the “light-to-medium” range is going to be 50 shades too dark for you. We had one of our redheaded coworkers test out the Erborian CC Crème High Definition Radiance Face Cream Skin Perfector as a little experiment. While the coverage was on the lighter side, she was happy to report that it blended into her skin seamlessly. Unfortunately, it caused another well-known problem for the pale peeps: it oxidized by the end of the day, turning a little more orange in color than it was originally. The hunt for the perfect light coverage, light shade face cream continues.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Did you know that the skin on your lips is the thinnest and most sensitive skin on your entire body? We gave this one to our lip balm loving coworker. When we say she’s picky about her lip care, we mean she’s passionate about using the best of the best. She said her lips felt plumper, and she didn’t have to use as much lip balm during the day. The mask has a sheer pink tint that wasn’t noticeable, but would definitely transfer onto sheets and pillow cases, so proceed with caution. With this product, she said, “A little goes a long way – and then some!” Don’t let the small packaging fool you, this baby will last you for months to come.

Julep Beauty Konjac Cleansing Sponge

The Julep Beauty Konjac Cleansing Sponge is a personal favorite for some of our staff members. When we mentioned it to the team, one of our guest services managers mentioned that she’s been using this sponge since December and had noticed a difference in her skin. It’s an exfoliator that’s gentle enough to use every day, not like the typical salt scrubs that can leave your skin feeling like sandpaper. This sponge will actually make you look forward to taking off your makeup at the end of the day. Although it’s not technically a sponge, and it’s not even Korean! It’s made from the porous roots of the Japanese Konjac tree. Don’t worry though, Julep Beauty only uses sustainably harvested konjac, so you can reap all the beauty benefits guilt free. You can thank us later. 😉

Dr. Jart+ Neck & Chin Lift™

You can’t talk about Korean Beauty without bringing up sheet masks! We tried out the Dr. Jart+ Neck & Chin Lift. It caught our attention, mainly due to the large pill on the front of the package. Plus, we don’t want to take any chances when it comes to turkey neck. This mask was different than the others; instead of placing it on your neck area, it came with straps to go around your ears to hold it into place. While that might seem like a good thing, it tugged. A lot. It’s hard to have a relaxing experience when your ears hurt.

With Sephora selling 15 different Dr. Jart+ sheet masks, even the most savvy beauty guru could get overwhelmed. After spending many a weekend trying mask after mask, we realized we needed to dedicate more than just a paragraph to the biggest trend in skincare. Curious to know more? You’ll have to check back into Cosmetic Corner next month for March Mask-ness.

We hope you enjoy trying out these K-Beauty cult favorites as much as we all did!
