When April rolls around, spring has officially sprung. Warmer days make me excited to dine al fresco and celebrate the season of outdoor festivals. April showers may bring May flowers, but this month also brings fresh new fashions I can’t wait to add to my wardrobe!
This spring the garden isn’t the only place to enjoy gorgeous flowers. Floral prints are everywhere, and while not exactly a new spring trend, we are seeing them in new and exciting ways this season.
Easter is April 16, and a floral frock makes the perfect Sunday attire. I love the colorblocked effect this Cece sheath dress from Nordstrom uses to create a dramatic impact. The floral transition between black and white is both simple and elegant. Floral dresses can be fun and flirty too, as this open shoulder dress from Forever 21 shows. It would be perfect for an outdoor concert or strolling one of the season’s art festivals.
Beautiful blooms are also making their way onto more than just dresses. Embroidery gives florals a boho edge, and I am loving these cropped mid-rise jeans from Zara, embroidered with vibrant color on a faded wash jean. Tous gives new meaning to arm candy with this floral inspired watch. And I love the 3-D effect these hoop earrings from J Crew bring to a simple spring look.
Sometimes the little things can make a big difference such as soft, scalloped details. These delicate edges give a charming touch to your spring outfits, transforming basic into beautiful!
The trench coat is a seasonal staple, and Club Monaco adds form to function with this lightweight pink topper with feminine edging. Even a basic black skirt, like this flirty mini from H&M, can be softened with a scalloped hem. The detail is also showing up in swimwear! This one-piece swimsuit from J.Crew has a retro style thanks to the subtle scalloped edges.
Scalloped details are showing up on accessories as well. Every girl needs a basic black ballerina flat and with this bow-decked Kate Spade flat Kate Spade flat from Belk you’ll have a romantic classic. More of a heel gal like myself? BCBGMAXAZRIA takes on the boho vibe with a scalloped sole on this stylish espadrille leather wedge.
Singing in the Rain
It may be the rainy season, but that’s no reason to be glum. Stylish shoppers make the most of the rain by pulling out fashion fixes that keep you looking chic AND dry.
Everyone needs a reliable umbrella, but basic doesn’t need to be boring. Tous has created a gorgeous umbrella from their KAOS print that is deep enough to keep away the damp. Another must-have to keep the water off your wardrobe is a stylish rain coat. Zara brings this season’s metallic trend to outerwear with this fun, slouchy metallic raincoat.
And every north Texas girl needs a great pair of rain boots. These Joules ‘Evedon’ Rain Boots from Nordstrom are an update on classic style with a grosgrain bow detail that adds the perfect flirty touch! Of course, snakeskin is a perennial favorite, and these python printed short rain boots by Ralph Lauren from Macy’s offer a stylish option that you can wear even when the storms have passed.
The bright blooms and feminine details we’re seeing this season remind me of why it’s great to be a girl, particularly a girl who loves shopping for the latest styles!
