Every year, millions of Americans resolve to get thin in the coming year, but so few achieve that goal. I think it’s so much more important to be comfortable in your own skin and to dress beautifully with the body you have! But, there are several style secrets you can use to make yourself look leaner.
I had fun this week reviewing some of the top tips with CBS 11’s Teresa Frosini, and thought I’d share them with you! Here are some of the secrets we shared:
We’ve always been told that dressing in all black can make you look thinner, but did you know you don’t have to go so dark? Dressing in any monochromatic look, particularly a saturated color, can make anyone look great! You create a long, lean line with nothing to break it up. We experimented with this great three piece look in grey at Nordstrom!
If you want to mix things up, try color-blocking! I found a great dress from Calvin Klein that had side panels in black. These create the illusion of a narrower waist. Or, you can use horizontal lines in colorblocking to create a waistline.
Speaking of waistlines, one of the easiest ways to create an hourglass shape is to add a belt. I love this jacquard tunic from Laundry. But it becomes even more flattering when you pair it with a wide black belt.
Other key tips?
- Nude heels make your legs look long and lean. Don’t believe me? When wearing a skirt or a dress, put on one black pump and one nude pump and take a look in the mirror!
- Diane von Furstenburg knew what she was talking about when she created the wrap dress. It’s every woman’s best friend. The wrap construction creates a waistline and highlights a womanly shape. And, the v-neckline is the perfect way to draw attention up to your face. Universally flattering!
- One of this year’s fashion highlights is the return of the peplum. A peplum on a dress, jacket or top is a great way to camouflage a problem midriff, and it’s right on trend!
- Sometimes it’s what’s underneath that counts. Invest in foundation garments and shapers that fit properly. If you’re not sure, visit a professional fitter and work with them to find bras, panties and shapers which will give you the smooth and lean look you want.
It may take a few months to reach your physical goals, but you can look dynamite by dinnertime by following these simple tips!
